Leviton has combined the two most popular configurations, a NEMA 5-15 and a CEE 7/16 1-15 plug. This two-pin plug is probably the most widely used plug internationally and is popularly known as the Europlug. The plug has no grounding connection and has two 4mm round pins that usually converge slightly. It can be inserted into any socket that accepts 4mm round contacts with a spacing of 19mm. It is described in the CEE 7/16 standard and is also defined in the Italian standard CEI 23-5 as well as the Russian standard GOST 7396. The Europlug is used in Class II applications throughout continental Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Lithuania). It is also used in Turkey, the Middle East, and most of Africa and South America (Brazil), as well as in the former Soviet republics and other developing nations. The plug is designed for use with products that need 2.5 A or less. Because it can be inserted in any direction into the socket, the live and neutral are connected randomly.
